A curse from Nike? It seems like all the top-tier players advertised in Nike’s Write the Future advertisement for the FIFA 2010 World Cup have been struck by a plague of poor performance, or were not even picks in the world cup selection. Mere coincidence can’t be called on this one.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s raged antics during Tuesday’s match against Spain might be his last. Certainly, the press seems to think that Ronaldo, known for his lightning fast pace on the field, needs an attitude adjustment. Being the best in the world is never an excuse for poor sportsmanship. And though his loyal fans may still admire his untouchable prowess in futbol, this year could have well been his last chance at capturing the imagination of his fans on the world stage. Ronaldo will be a ripe 29 years old the next time around, and futbol die-hards will be busy idolizing the next young superstar… one who isn’t such a jerk.
However, on a lighter note - who will you be rooting for in the Quarter Finals which airs on July 3rd, 2010?
It should be an interesting end to the second phase of the world cup series, and then we may begin our long anticipated wait until 2014.
