Charlie St. Cloud is the next installment from the people who brought you 17 Again.  This time around, the story revolves around a guilt-stricken boy named Charlie who blames himself for the death of his younger brother, Sam.  As a condolence towards his dead brother’s spirit, Charlie promises to play baseball with “Sam” every evening before he leaves for college and also takes up a job as a caretaker for the cemetery where his brother rests.  When Charlie eventually meets a girl who he likes, his brother’s image grows weary, and Charlie must decide if he wants to stay and play with his brother forever, or if it’s time to go and live his life.
Starring Zac Efron and a bunch of no-name actors, St. Cloud is another “movie based on an emotional novel:” and like The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, and Big Fish (not Dear John … because this movie was horrible) it seems like a promising addition to the genre of dramatic cinema.
A compelling ensemble of how far brotherly love will go, Charlie St. Cloud opens in theaters July 30, 2010.
What are your thoughts on Charlie St. Cloud and the notion of “moving on?”
